Martin McLeod Brueggemann is a native to St. Paul, Minnesota and although he often wishes he were named after a certain time-traveling cinema hero, his birth predates this possibility by two years. From an early age Marty was fascinated with music and melody and strived to emulate his singing heroes, such as Dorothy, the Scarecrow, and Manah Manah. Piano lessons soon followed and he attended them with great commitment and at times even practiced for them. At the age of 9, he began studying the alto saxophone and after hundreds of broken reeds and a few tongue slivers, finally got the hang of the instrument (you’re to blow out, not suck in).

Marty had always a strong passion for melody and great appreciation for the emotional power of music. Unfortunately, he was something of a late-bloomer, (in both the gym and the practice room) and for many years had difficulty in translating his musical ideas. Thankfully, this awkward age passed and a love affair with songwriting ensued. After study in the acoustic and electric guitars and a return to the piano, Marty dove head over heels for this new love, songwriting. Granted, at first this consisted of more giggling and blushing, but eventually he and songwriting were holding hands and singing in public.

In the following years, after increasing experience in classical, jazz, and rock settings, including musical study at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the relationship between Marty and songwriting strengthened and matured. The fruits of their labor and love are a versatile array of accessible and optimistic songs. Together they now strive to share striking melodies, earnest lyrics, and positive musical emotions with friends, strangers, and loved ones one and all.
